Yep, it’s already that time again — #BrescoLovesBham Roundup Part II time!
I know what you’re thinking — “they already have enough local restaurants and hotspots for a round two??” Well, with the addition of 21 new restaurants in Birmingham already this year (!!), we’ve been busy! While a few of these spots have been around for a while, some of them are brand new to Birmingham and we are so excited that they’re here!
This restaurant started out as a highly successful pop-up at the Pepper Place Farmer’s Market, local coffee shops, and other places around town before opening their brick and mortar location in Homewood in October of 2017. The location is always packed with people ready for their fix of a brioche-style doughnut (the style that makes them stand out from all the other doughnut shops in town) or fresh brioche hamburger roll! They are also serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches/burgers with local coffee, kombucha, and Piper & Leaf tea. Although we only stopped in for doughnuts, we can’t wait to get back there for a juicy hamburger on one of those fluffy brioche buns!
Bird’s is a huge standout in the ever-growing pizza scene in Birmingham. Located in Lakeview in the old Rare Martini location, it’s open late into the night and serves fantastic pizza, salads, wings, and drinks. The restaurant features garage doors on the sidewalk-front of the building that open to the outside patio. Patrons can sit on either side of the doors at a counter-top table.
The pizzas speak for themselves.. but we’ll do our best to covey how good they are. Their pizza menu is split into two sections: ‘The Basics’ and ‘The Not So Basics.’ Under ‘Basics,’ you will find a cheese pizza, a pepperoni pizza, a margherita pizza, and a few different types of meat-lovers’-style pizzas. Flip over the ‘Not So Basics’ and you will find a chicken/bacon/ranch pizza, a BBQ chicken pizza, and then some more exciting varieties, such as a moo shu pork pizza and a gumbo pizza. Bird’s is not to be missed if you’re in the Lakeview area and in the mood for some pizza, check it out!
Now for a little breakfast fix… you can now get your Crestline Bagel fix in two different locations! The original Crestline location in Mountain Brook is still open for business, but now you can also head over to Cahaba Heights to their new location! Their menu is full of creative bagel flavors, as well as pizza bagels (yeah… we DEFINITELY got one of those), smoked salmon, and all kinds of baked goods! They even have baked goods for your pups!! So fun. We loved the pizza bagel and the sugar cookies were a huge hit! We are so proud to have outfitted the great kitchen at Crestline Bagel! They are doing great things over there.
From the talented owners of Gianmarco’s comes a new restaurant concept, Pizzeria GM. Located in West Homewood, this white-brick-and-crisp-black-edged corner space just kind of invites you right inside (or onto the patio, in the warmer months to come!). The funky space is a home for exciting pizzas, wine on draft (very cool), Italian meat-and-cheese plates, pastas, sandwiches, and salads. They serve local craft beer and have a large selections of wine! This restaurant is a must-try!!
Birmingham has been in need of a great healthy spot for juices, smoothies, and fruit bowls for a while now, and Farmbowl delivers! Farmbowl comes to us from the owners of the popular fast-casual and health-conscious restaurant Urban Cookhouse. In fact, Farmbowl is attached to the new Urban Cookhouse location in Homewood. They feature fresh juices, a large selection of smoothies and fruit bowls, and oatmeal bowls! (Our recommendations: the Nutty Professor bowl and the Refresh juice.)
Of course, you will need to finish off all of these fantastic meals with a dessert! Why not head over to the Avondale area and treat yourself to a nice scoop (or two! We don’t judge…) of ice cream? Without a doubt, this is some of the best, most fun ice cream around! They have a seasonal menu, so you will always be surprised. We tried the Snack Time flavor (salted sweet cream, cookie dough, brownie bits, chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels) and holy moly was it good!! As was their classic vanilla. Sometimes you just need a classic, you know?
We’re so lucky to have such amazing restaurants in Birmingham and we love seeing it grow! We are so proud to have worked on almost every single one of these great spots — designing kitchens, supplying products, and just helping these business get ready to serve our great city. We love you, Bham! And we especially love all our amazing customers for allowing us to help the Birmingham foodservice continue to grow.
